On the afternoon of March 22, at the scientific conference "The role of dietary supplements in improving performance and preventing doping for high-performance athletes", issues of functional foods, dietary supplements and how to help athletes avoid doping and achieve high results were discussed.
According to statistics from the Department of Sports and Sports, nearly 60% of the Vietnamese population over 18 years old use dietary supplements. In rural areas, each person uses 2-4 types of dietary supplements, while in the city this number is 4-6 types. Usage is even higher in middle-aged and elderly people. Meanwhile, most top athletes use about 3-5 types every day. Some types of dietary supplements help improve competition performance, increase metabolism and immunity, shorten recovery time as well as prevent a number of chronic and acute diseases that can occur in athletes. However, many types still have unclear scientific effects and need to be researched to have enough evidence of effectiveness. Athletes' use of incorrect types, dosages, quality... has led to negative consequences and, above all, contamination with banned substances (doping). However, the inspection and supervision of food supplement quality by the authorities still has many shortcomings, leading to an overflow of dietary supplements that have negative effects on health.
Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet shared: "From a state management perspective, the sports industry is gradually implementing and clearly separating what is in dietary supplements into athletes' daily meals, thereby understanding what athletes are doing." What support and supplements are needed to improve physical fitness, contributing to a comfortable spirit to achieve the best performance?"
Mr. Dang Ha Viet also added that, after the workshop, training centers will coordinate with nutrition experts to develop scientific diets for athletes to improve performance. Vietnamese sports will also develop a process to use dietary supplements for athletes on national teams. Meanwhile, dietary supplements have also been used a lot by athletes recently. Mr. Dang Ha Viet clearly pointed out that this is a problem that Vietnamese sports are facing. Athletes arbitrarily use and hide the use of drugs or functional foods while these products are widely sold on the market. This has led to very unfortunate penalties. For top athletes training for national teams, especially athletes aiming for the ASIAD and Olympic arenas, nutritional factors before, during and after meals are very important. Therefore, if you want to use dietary supplements and dietary supplements, you must be informed and checked carefully.
Also attending the conference was Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong. He hopes that athletes must pay special attention when using dietary supplements as well as nutritional supplements. He expressed his opinion: "In recent years, Vietnamese sports have discovered a number of cases of athletes testing positive for banned substances (doping). This is an urgent problem that the sports industry needs a thorough solution to overcome. We see problems emerging due to lack of understanding about doping substances and, more dangerously, athletes arbitrarily buying functional foods floating on the market without permission from doctors, coaches and training centers. sport. Besides the benefits of TPBS to enhance sports performance, the risk of violating the use of banned substances is not small. Therefore, we must be very careful and not let unfortunate problems occur." Yangmiwa co-organized the conference as well as Yangmiwa experts contributed research on NMN and nutritional regimens in the report at the conference...
